Douglaswood Scout Centre belongs to, and is administered by, Dundee District Scout Council.
It is situated on the B978 Dundee to Kirkbuddo road, about seven miles north-east of
Dundee. The Map Reference is OS Landranger Sheet 54 Grid Reference NO 486414.
The site, a former RAF radar installation, is totally enclosed. There are two
accommodation buildings on site, one of which has been constructed with special needs
groups in mind (although both buildings are wheelchair accessible). There are
numerous camping areas suitable for both patrol and troop camping.
The facilities are available for use all year round for long
and short visits. Although built primarily for Scouting use,
the centre is much in demand from, church groups,
Guides, youth groups, Duke of Edinburgh, and groups
from abroad. The facilities are available for evening and
mid-week use, as well as weekends and school
holidays.
The centre is ideally situated for many activities, with every
form of watersport (sea, river and loch), abseiling, climbing,
hill walking, rambling, and pony trekking
all being available within a ten mile radius. Dundee is only
twenty minutes drive away with all the facilities you would
expect to
find in a modern city such as
leisure centres, parks, museums, shopping centres, churches,
etc.
Dundee has major rail and bus stations and is easily reached by road.
At the Scout centre there are a number of activities available
such as pioneering, clockface orienteering, nature trail, bouldering
wall, local hikes and mountain bikes. There is also a
field studies centre on site.
